This work was realized in cooperation with Barnaby Dicker in the framework of the three-year research project RESET THE APPARATUS! I followed a work method to generate images already employed in previous projects. My focus is not a depiction of nature, rather to arrive through its processes at an essence that becomes image. It is an alchemic encounter with a natural process, which is constantly taking place everywhere around us and makes nature itself the producer of the image.
Rich green leafs were plucked, chopped up, and pestled in a mortar with an ethanol solution. In this manner, the chlorophyll dissolves out of the leaves. The bright-green light-sensitive solution is then applied to the respective image carriers. If this chlorophyll solution is exposed to direct blazing sunlight, the image areas not protected from the light became brown and lost their fresh green color.
Images exposed in this way have a limited lifespan. The transience inscribed into natural processes is thus entirely self-evident in the imaging process, too. The ephemeral as such becomes the central topic. Hence, at the core of this work is not the image product rather the experience of the process.
